All three kids finally back to school, hoo-bloody-ray. So in order to celebrate I’ve taken a day off work, just to wallow in a bit of peace and quiet. Although it’s as muggy as anything Autumn must be just around the corner so time to look at some of the A/W bits that could be worn now but also when it gets proper cold. Metallics seems to have been around for ages but it appears they won’t be going anywhere for a while. And I’m delighted that metallics have combined with my favourite length of skirt, the midi, and also gone and added some pleats to boot. I would mainly wear a pleated midi to work so adding a polo neck, bomber jacket, ankle boots or maybe some heels if I wanted to up the smart factor. However skirts like this can also be worn simply with a sweatshirt or furry jumper and trainers. I think ultimately it comes down to getting the proportions right.
Clockwise from top left. Topshop jersey pleat midi skirt £32. Even when I look closely the material doesn’t look anything like jersey but this blush pink is a gorgeous colour which would go with all the darker, more wintery colours. Zara metallic pleat shirt £49.99, love the styling on this with the boots and Monsters Inc. style jacket. This Reiss skirt is the most expensive at £130 and I don’t know if it’s the styling or the skirt itself but it looks too short. Difficult to properly describe the colour of this pewter(ish) skirt from Next £46. More from Topshop with a silver metallic skirt £68 which looks virtually identical to the ‘jersey’ pink one. Very taken with this silver skirt from Warehouse £45. I like that it’s not so in your face metallic, so possibly more suitable for work.
And the pleated skirt doesn’t just come in metallics. I am partial to a pop of colour or pattern – these are my favourites. Granted this brown skirt from Uniqlo £24.90 doesn’t exactly have the wow factor, not helped by the all brown ensemble. However at a price like this I think this could be a hidden gem. I think it would work best with an embroidered bomber jacket or slouchy sweatshirt. The world and his wife are lusting after this animal print skirt from Zara £29.99 – what’s not to love about it. Boohoo yellow chiffon skirt £16, lots of other colours to choose from is this banana yellow doesn’t float your boat. Hate the styling with this red satin skirt from Dorothy Perkins £38 but another option that could look great with the right accessorising.
Getting nagged to assist with book covering although apparently the air bubbles are all my fault. It has been sticky and humid all day here without the sun appearing once. So one final flash of my ‘Cornwall tan’ in an ancient Esprit strapless top together with navy culottes from M&S. Sandals from Geox.
Let the torture of book covering continue ……..
